Declaration of conformity

Partial conformity, self-assessed. CHANA MOD is a small company and has not commissioned an independent RGAA audit. What follows is what we implemented deliberately and verified ourselves. Where we know of a gap, it is listed under known limitations.

What is built in

Contrast

• Body text is deep ink brown on limestone white, at a measured contrast ratio of about 13.9 to 1.
• Burgundy on limestone, used for links, rules and labels, measures about 11.2 to 1.
• The primary call to action is limestone on burgundy at the same 11.2 to 1, above the 7 to 1 we set ourselves for the main action.
• Muted secondary text measures about 6.8 to 1, above the 4.5 to 1 minimum for body copy.
• The header bar sits over photography at the top of the home page. In that state a scrim is laid behind it, so the labels meet contrast both before and after the bar turns frosted on scroll.

Information never carried by colour alone

• Opacity ratings are written out — opaque, semi-sheer, sheer — with an explanation beside each.
• Restock states are written out — no restock planned, restock planned, restock undecided.
• A batch that has reached zero says so in words as well as changing appearance.
• The active item in a series or a filter is marked with text, not only a rule.

Structure and assistive technology

• One h1 per page, with headings nested in order below it.
• Fit notes and measurements are real table elements with row and column headers and a caption, so the correspondence between a wearer and a verdict survives both a narrow screen and a screen reader.
• Columns that do not apply to a block are dropped from the table rather than filled with a zero, and cells with nothing recorded announce “not recorded”.
• A skip link to the main content is the first thing in the tab order.
• Landmarks, breadcrumbs and navigation regions are labelled.
• Every image carries alt text, and decorative images carry an empty alt attribute.

Vertical text

The burgundy rail down the left of every page is set with the CSS writing-mode property rather than a rotation transform. It therefore stays real, selectable text, and each rail also carries a plain horizontal equivalent announced to screen readers.

Motion

Entrance animations, the counting figures and the series cross-fade all respect the operating system’s reduced-motion setting. With it on, the entrance animations do not run at all, figures render at their final value immediately, the hero video is paused and its still frame is shown, and the scroll-driven series section is replaced by a plain stacked list carrying the same information.

Keyboard and pointer

• Everything interactive is reachable and operable by keyboard, in a logical order.
• Focus is always visible: a two-pixel burgundy outline, offset from the element, which inverts to limestone on the burgundy rail.
• The cart drawer traps nothing you cannot escape — Escape closes it.
• Targets are at least 44 by 44 CSS pixels on touch.

Forms

• Every field has a real, visible, associated label.
• Errors appear next to the field they concern, announced with role="alert", and say what to do rather than only that something is wrong.
• Autocomplete attributes are set so browsers can fill known values.
• Nothing relies on placeholder text as a label.

Zoom and reflow

Text scales to 200 per cent without loss of content or function, and the layout reflows to a single column at 320 CSS pixels wide without horizontal scrolling. Wide tables scroll inside their own container rather than pushing the page sideways.

Known limitations

• No independent RGAA audit has been carried out. The assessment above is our own.
• The scroll-driven series section on the home page is enjoyable rather than necessary. Everything it shows is also on the our series page as ordinary text, and the same content appears as a plain list under reduced motion.
• The hero video has no soundtrack and carries no information, so it has no captions. Its still frame is shown to anyone who has asked for reduced motion.
• Product photography shows garments hung rather than worn. The fit notes exist so that how a piece sits is available as text, not only as an image.
